Event Showcase: Party Beyond at Scienceworks

Scienceworks is a playground for big and little kids, a platform for exploring the newest scientific discoveries and celebrating the historic ideas that form the basis of the world as we know it. On top of all that, Scienceworks has a reputation as a spectacularly unique architectural gem that invites visitors to rediscover the inquisitive child within.

For one winter evening, curious minds will be invited to step out of the chilly Melbourne night and into an immersive world beyond current knowledge. Party Beyond by Scienceworks is an adults-only look into the museum’s newest specialist exhibition, complete with an impressive live music program, and food and drinks to match.

An exhibition that promises to reveal the unseen, Beyond Perception is a mind-bending showcase of new technology, ideas and world views curated by a group of scientists, engineers, artists, digital designers and new-age thinkers.

Accompanied by an exciting lineup of some of Melbourne’s best new electronic music acts and experimental producers, Party Beyond will engulf guests in a sensory experience where they’ll encounter a new type of exhibition: completely interactive and calling on all senses to experience the blending of art, science and music.

While ideas from all over the globe will be on show, the music lineup has been curated to celebrate local musicians who are bending the binary of acoustic and electronic sounds to create entirely new soundscapes.

Melbourne’s Pillow Pro, Biscotti and special international guest, Future Fosil will be providing the tunes for the night’s festivities, presenting experimental electronic sounds to set the tone for the evening.

Pillow Pro are dreamy alt-pop duo, Sophie and Christobel. Two women from Melbourne who produce synth laden infectious pop songs with a distinct RnB flavour.

Carla Ori is the quirky mind behind Biscotti, a multi-instrumental electro-pop project that combines noise art with cinematic production techniques to create a genre-spanning sound.

All the way from Chile, Future Fosil is the solo project of MKRNI front woman, Elisita Punto.  Punto produces a unique blend of techno pop grounded in deep beats.

With new ways of thinking and experiencing the world taking centre stage, guests will be strongly encouraged to take an organic approach to meandering through the exhibits, and dancing is strongly encouraged.

As a function venue, Scienceworks is an inspiring choice, featuring seven unique spaces that can be hired exclusively for private events. Each space is decked out with unique details, and can be as flexible as you need. Try turning the old pumping station into the backdrop for your vows, or project your new product onto the 16 metre high planetarium dome to really wow guests.

Party Beyond is an exclusive event made for adults, but the exhibition was developed in a unique consultation with a group of teenagers. The distinct ways of interacting with the world have been shaped by the exact kinds of new technology that the exhibition seeks to explore.

A spectacular sonic experience awaits guests on the night, where new tech has been used to blend light and sound in unique ways. Interact with projections from outer space, learn about sound waves and experience a cacophony from the comfort of an ergonomically designed circular couch.

Party Beyond may be a one-off look at the science shaping our future, but the exhibition is here to stay, evolving and changing as scientists and guests bring new ideas to the table.

Curious to discover the science shaping our future with a wine in hand? Party Beyond at Scienceworks takes place on Friday the 22nd of June.
